International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women

Hey, yes I’m not died! I’m sorry it’s been forever since I last posted anything new but here’s something special…

November 25 has been marked as the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women by women activists worldwide. This day is marked with the brutal assassination, in 1961, of the three Mirabal sisters who were political activists in the Dominican Republic. The Mirabal sisters are a symbol of resistance against the dictatorship in the Dominican Republic then. Since 1981 women's activists have celebrated this day as the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women to gain momentum and solidarity in their struggle against violence against women.

The Right to be free from violence has been recognised as a human right in several international human rights conventions and treaties. The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women, 1993 asserts that violence against women is a manifestation of power relations and “is one of the crucial social mechanisms by which women are forced into a subordinate position compared with men.” Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA), which was adopted in 1995 reiterates the responsibility of all governments to “take integrated measures to prevent and eliminate violence against women.” The 189 nations that adopted the Platform for Action committed themselves to developing comprehensive programmes to end gender-based violence.”

Vanishing Gardens of Happiness POEM

Hello my fond readers,
I know it’s been quite a long time since I last posted. And I apologise. I haven’t had any interesting ideas for a good post, because you guys deserve one!

Just to make sure you guys know, I did not abandon you… and for this bloging here’s a poem I wrote last year. It’s personally my favourite of all of mine… enjoy.

Vanishing Gardens of Happiness

Take me away where I can breathe again
Hold me high, win my pain
I can’t hold on to me
Wonder what’s wrong before I see

The words you speak
Have no meaning now
Sweet whispers from your voice
Haunts me and gives me no choice

I’m going to run away
I’m going to leave
All those whispers
Are no longer my believe

Broken wings will fly
Even though I cry these hollow tears
I won’t try to mistake my fears

All of my hate cannot be found
Still you come and pull me down
All the spirits have come to see
Your all alone now just you and me

Scream, they can’t hear
Bleed, trough your own fear
It’s just a dream of tonight
This follows no longer with light

So dark this night
Burning down with bright
Leading further into my emptiness
Ending across vanishing gardens of happiness

Here's the FULL trailer:

I write my own destiny on these twisted lines

That's a valiant flea that dares eat his breakfast on the lip of a lion.” ~ William Shakespeare

Don’t you sometimes feel so lost? Helpless in a way…
I made this hole plan of my life, every detail, every solution to any problem that come in my way… but I just know that destiny is uncertain and you can’t keep planning your life the way you wished. Mostly, life is unfair. But we have to live with it and keep holding on…
I’ve planned this whole life for me… 6 years at least. And I can’t stop thinking about it. About how I so want it to come true… I’m going to run after my dreams and no one can stop me… I have haters and I have believers… but my opinion is the most significant!
I can’t say everything will go as planed but I sure know that it will get somewhere close. I can feel it. Even the person I thought would disapprove of my decision, was the one who’s supporting me the most. And not only that but that person is also going to run after her dream… and I must say I’m proud!
I’m scared, it’s a reality I can’t ignore but that’s what makes us human. I have to face my fear, fight through the pain and only there I can be happy…

As you can see, readers, I’ve had my mind in a lot of things lately… especially now that my senior year in high school is going to start. There is so much I have to decide this year and I’m afraid of making mistakes, mistakes that will destroy my dream. But whatever happens, I know I wont give up that easily… I’ll fight and defend…
I write my own destiny on these twisted lines…

The Key to Life

Hello readers, the summer is almost over (unfortunately) and the real life is almost starting again…

For this blogging I’m going to share with you all, the symbol that I love the most. The Ankh! Or better saying, The Key to Life

Wiki:

Origins

The precise origin of the symbol remains a mystery to Egyptologists, and no single hypothesis has been widely accepted. Scholars such as Howard Carter speculate that it is derived from a primitive representation of human genitalia (with the upper circle representing the vulva and lower 'T' shape representing the penis and testicles), and variations on this theme are common. Similar assertions are that the symbol is a representation of the pharaoh's penis sheath or that it is a stylized pubic triangle. [ very interesting xD ]

Other theories are much more diverse. E. A. Wallis Budge thought it might have originated as the belt-buckle of the mother goddess Isis, an idea joined by Wolfhart Westendorf with the notion that both the ankh and the knot of Isis were used as ties on ceremonial girdles. Sir Alan Gardiner speculated that it represented a sandal strap, with the loop going around the ankle. The word for sandal strap was also spelled ʿnḫ, although it may have been pronounced differently.

Still other theories include the notion that the ankh represents the sun crowning over the horizon, the path of the sun from east to west (with the loop representing the Nile), a stylized person, or that it is a combination of the male and female symbols of Osiris (the cross) and Isis (the oval) respectively, and therefore signifies the union of heaven and earth. [ I really like this representation of the Ankh. A step closed to our maker… ]

In their 2004 book "The Quick and the Dead", Andrew H. Gordon and Calvin W. Schwabe speculated that the ankh, djed and was symbols have a biological basis derived from ancient cattle culture (linked to the Egyptian belief that semen was created in the spine), thus:

• the Ankh - symbol of life - thoracic vertebra of a bull (seen in cross section)
• the Djed - symbol of stability - base on sacrum of a bull's spine
• the Was - symbol of power and dominion - a staff made from a dried bull's penis

Over time, the ankh has come to symbolize life and immortality, the universe, power and life-giving air and water. Its keylike shape has also encouraged the belief it could unlock the gates of death, and it is viewed this way by the modern Rosicrucians and other hermetic orders. The Coptic Christians have used it as a symbol of life after death.

History

The ankh appears frequently in Egyptian tomb paintings and other art, often at the fingertips of a god or goddess in images that represent the deities of the afterlife conferring the gift of life on the dead person's mummy; this is thought to symbolize the act of conception. Additionally, an ankh was often carried by Egyptians as an amulet, either alone, or in connection with two other hieroglyphs that mean "strength" and "health" (see explication of Djed and Was,above). Mirrors of beaten metal were also often made in the shape of an ankh, either for decorative reasons or to symbolize a perceived view into another world.

The ankh was almost never drawn in silver; as a sun-symbol, the Egyptians almost invariably crafted important examples of it (for tombs or other purposes) from the metal they most associated with the sun, gold. A similar metal such as copper, burnished to a high sheen, was also sometimes used. [ always good to know ]

In popular culture

The ankh has been a popular symbol within various cultural movements (Hippie, Goth), cinema (Logan's Run, The Hunger), comic books (Sandman), musical groups (Kiss, Elvis Presley, The 69 Eyes), television shows (Yu-Gi-Oh!) and video games (Tomb Raider, Ultima, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars).

A stylized ankh is also a popular tattoo amongst such celebrities as professional wrestlers Christopher Daniels and Edge, neo-soul/hip-hop artist Erykah Badu, pop music artist Anastacia and NBA stars Shaquille O'Neal and Dennis Rodman. [ and myself! ]

The ankh also remains popular among neopagan religious and spiritual movements, as a symbol for a variety of concepts relating to life or immortality.

Let your tears come. Let them water your soul...

Hello readers,
I am sorry for the lack of updates, but to be honest I didn’t have any inspiration.
For this bloging I’m going to talk about that sad emotion that we express by crying

Let your tears come. Let them water your soul.” ~Eileen Mayhew

Life doesn’t always go the way we had hoped. Sometimes it even betrays us… we often think that our life isn’t worth living…

Cry… that sad emotion which most cultures consider it to be undignified and infantile, casting aspersions on those who cry publicly, except if it is due to the death of a close friend or relative. In most cultures, it is more socially acceptable for women to cry than men. In my opinion there is no difference if it is a woman that cries or if it a man. We are human!

Crying is an emotional reaction that is considered by many to be a uniquely human phenomenon, possibly due to humans' advanced self-awareness.
Some studies suggest that elephants and gorillas may cry as well.

According to a hadith, the prophet Muhammad proclaimed: "This (tears) is an expression of the tenderness and compassion, which the Lord hath put into the hearts of His servants. The Lord doth not have compassion on and commiserate with His servants, except such as are tender and full of feeling."

Don’t be afraid of expressing your feelings… we are still human after all

Swimming with the dolphins

Hello everybody! I’m back! =D

Let me tell you all that my week on the beach was awesome. I had so much fun and I absolutely loved the company…

We took pictures, we cooked (I tried), we danced, we saw horror movies (I tried), we played with water until we all got pretty wet (with clothes and everything, right Xtevao? lol), we went to the beach, we went to the pool, we did everything we wanted and we enjoyed it all the way!

You may ask why I wrote the title “Swimming with the dolphins”, well let me tell you that on the day before we had to go home we went for a quick swim on the beach and guess who came to visit us in the water?... DOLPHINS! They we’re adorable. Pity we didn’t have the camera with us…

Special thanks for the people that made this week bombastic:
- Xtevao
- Du

No river’s to wide for you to make it across all you have to do is believe it when you pray...

This blogging is dedicated entirety to one of my dear friend who is recently apart from me and the rest of my friends group … you know who you are…

I wanted to tell you that we understand that you prefer to stay away from us for various reasons – that we all know – and we are going to stay right here, waiting for you like we always will be…

It’s hard to find the answers to those questions we can’t answer… it hurts to know that we’re unable to help you, to save you… the only thing we can do is hope this storm that’s passing over our heads will come to an end and may it let the sun, light our days with clarity and joy… let it be light where we only saw night…
Every sad tear you’ve cried will be replaced by tears of happiness which will involve you with the strength to make you go trough life with your head straight up…

Like the song says – “no mountain’s to high for you to climb, all you have to do is have some climbing faint. No river’s to wide for you to make it across all you have to do is believe it when you pray…

You will always have a shoulder to cry… you will always have us…
“Friends are like stars, you don’t always see them but you know they are there…”

Footprints in the Sand

Hello dear readers,

For today’s post I wanted to share with you a beautiful poem I serially find irresistible. It’s called “Footprints in the sand” by Mary Stevenson.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking
along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life
flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed
footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were
two sets of footprints,
other times there was one only.
This bothered me
because I noticed that
during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only
one set of footprints,
so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would
walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most
trying periods of my life
there has only been one set of
prints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied,
“The years when you have seen
only one set of footprints,
is when I carried you.”
~ Mary Stevenson, 1936

This poem has to be one of the most powerful poems there is because every time I read it a disobedient tear runs down my face… it’s so simple but with so much emotions swimming in it… beautifully written.

Ok, so I finished my last exam yesterday and I can officially say that I’m on vacations! I haven’t done much lately but I’m hopping to have some adventures and fun in the near future.
Oh! And by the way, today is the first day of summer! Yay!

That’s all for today, see you all next blogging!

Seeing isn't always Believing

As we go through live we mostly see what we want and accept what our mind wants to accept.

“The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.”

We live our lives and don’t bother with our surroundings. But if you look with more consideration, you can find out that seeing isn’t always believing… for example: Illusions.

Illusions
An illusion is a misrepresentation of a sensory perception, revealing how the brain normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation. While illusions distort reality, they are generally shared by most people. Illusions may occur with more of the human senses than vision, but visual illusions, optical illusions, are the most well known and understood.

As we all know, Illusion is the autonym of Reality. The Human race fears what he does not understand yet some fear the true reality… to avoid the pain, we trick our mind into believing in something far more different from what in reality we see, living this world blind, living a world of dream… and is this dream really a vision of happiness?

Our surroundings can fool us… but is the fooled really fooled? We all have secrets – but that is another story.

No further grieve

For today’s post I wanted to do something different so I’m posting a poem I made.
I write what I feel and at that moment of my life my mind and soul told me to write this poem even though I wasn’t really sure why… after a few weeks, one of my closest friend’s uncle died… then I realized why I wrote it… it was for him…
I dedicate this poem to Xtevao for his lost…

No further Grieve

Far across the distance
I hear your voice
I hear you calling me

You promised to stay
But now that you’re gone
You know I can’t forgive

I feel you all around me
I believe, I know
You never left me, never alone

I run into shadows
Not forgiving, not forgetting
But nothing can bring you back

I used to stand by myself
You were always there
Even though I didn’t see
You kept me always under your wing

Looking up, I see you smile
Shinning, guiding me
And under your wing
I pray to stay

Monika I. - Feb 2007

Losing someone you love must be one of the most unpleasant eternal pain you can ever experience… knowing you can’t see that smile again, the things you wanted to say… yet we know they’re still with us, we can feel them all around shinning from above… as we call them our guardian angels we keep the memory craved in our souls…

I have never experienced this kind of grieve and I’m not looking forward to.
Does anyone want to share thoughts about this?

Here's a quote for today:
"Death is as sure for that which is born, as birth is for that which is dead. Therefore grieve not for what is inevitable." - Bhagavad Gita

Solitude walk

Hello dear readers, sorry I haven’t been writing much but school got me a bit busy… plus exams are coming… here’s my topic for today – Solitude.

"Solitude, though it may be silent as light, is like light, the mightiest of agencies; for solitude is essential to man. All men come into this world alone and leave it alone." - Thomas de Quincey

I can personally say that I constantly live in solitude… it’s not like I don’t have friends, but sometimes you just wish you were alone to reflect on yourself and find your inner voice…

I had some questions so I googled it:

Solitude is the state of being alone without being lonely. It is a positive and constructive state of engagement with oneself. Solitude is desirable, a state of being alone where you provide yourself wonderful and sufficient company.
Solitude is a time that can be used for reflection, inner searching or growth or enjoyment of some kind. Deep reading requires solitude, so does experiencing the beauty of nature. Thinking and creativity usually do too.
Solitude suggests peacefulness stemming from a state of inner richness. It is a means of enjoying the quiet and whatever it brings. That is satisfying and from which we draw sustenance. It is something we cultivate. Solitude is refreshing; an opportunity to renew ourselves. In other words, it replenishes us.

Solitude is not equal to loneliness:

Loneliness is harsh, punishment, a deficiency state, a state of discontent marked by a sense of estrangement, an awareness of excess aloneness.
Solitude is something you choose. Loneliness is imposed on you by others.
We all need periods of solitude, although temperamentally we probably differ in the amount of solitude we need. Some solitude is essential; It gives us time to explore and know ourselves. It is the necessary counterpoint to intimacy, what allows us to have a self worthy of sharing. Solitude gives us a chance to regain perspective. It renews us for the challenges of life. It allows us to get (back) into the position of driving our own lives, rather than having them run by schedules and demands from without.
Solitude restores body and mind. Loneliness
depletes them.

What do you think?

Bis vincit qui se vincit in Victoria

Bis vincit qui se vincit in Victoria” -(Syrus) ,
In English “He conquers twice who in the hour of conquest conquers himself.

It’s amazing the any ways that we can upset ourselves for tiny things in life… it’s true, we all do it, we can’t help it… I constantly do it. Making myself think that my emotions have nothing to do with reality but it’s actually the opposite.

The more important emotion is fear. You may ask – fear? Important??? – Yes! It has always been with us, even when we didn’t have conscious of life itself… it was one of the first emotion we had when we first come in this world and when we leave this place to beyond, it will be one of the last… it makes us stronger, makes us be prepared for the next step ahead…

Emotions run our world in so many different ways. They’re not always for the best but that’s what makes us human.

Your emotions are part of who you are so let it be…

The Rareness of Friendship

Friendship, what a rare thing… do you really have trustful friends?

"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King Jr.

I start this post with a Martin Luther King’s quote.
I have never found a true friend, a person that I can count with, someone that will be happy for my happiness and wont be envy or sad… someone that I can talk and share my problems and glories and be shared with his problems and glories…
Friends? I have a hand full… however true friends I have none… I walk this lonesome path, with an empty space, wondering one day to be filled. Wondering if I will ever have someone to walk with on that lonely rode…
It really hurts the most when it’s your friends that hurt you, when you thought you knew all about one person but now you see that it was just an illusion of fate…
The things you thought you knew for sure aren’t so certain anymore…

My philosophy

In every corner of night, there is always a light. Seek it and make it bright!”-by me.

My philosophy… my guide…

We all have bad moments in our life. Some worse then other, and other you can’t believe you’re still alive… But we should always look forward to that light which has always been inside of us, our inner strength… our meaning to live…

Bad times came and go… but we only have one life… one opportunity to do good… to make it for us and for the ones around us… seek that inner light and make it bright…

And what if we could live forever?

And what if we could live forever? Could we call this present? Future, what does it mean? Would we continue to fight for a place in this eternity? When would it stop? We will keep moving trough life, wondering what does death feel like… will it hurt? I believe the body is the prison to our soul yet without it we wouldn’t have lived at all. And what would you choose? The fountain of knowledge or the fountain of life? Would you choose? Would you leave it alone? Too late now, all is over… no pain nor sound… just empty space awaiting you… but again, what if we could live forever?...

Poems

One of my hobbies is to write poems. I guess it sets me free from the cruel world I live in… so when I get sad or disappointed with something, I write. I write with all my feelings with all my soul… here’s one of my latest poems:

Deliverance

In a dream will you give your love to me
Take my hand and lead me
Save me from me
Until I finally see

Under each second
You’re passing away
The memory will soar
And won’t betray

I’m not running
I fear nothing
You can see me, you won’t hurt me
It’s craved in my soul
Never to regret that one thing I won’t forget
So stop pretending and don’t try understanding

Under my hate
You’ll always find yourself
Lost among the lies
And realize, it’s to late

There’s nothing else here
Nothing you can say
No fear no tear
I made my way

Oh, I forgot to say. Most of my poems are pretty sad and dark… the dark side of me…
Deliverance, I wrote because I made a final decision to let go of my nightmares, let go of the things that were haunting me in the past. I look forward now with no fear “no fear no tear / I made my way”

Here’s a poem a friend of mine wrote for me:

Confesso

Corpo de mulher tu tens
Alma de um anjo também
E uma luz radiante
Que te levará mais alem

Não penses k tudo é lindo
Não penses k tudo é belo
Vives num mundo mágico
Luta para poderes tê-lo

Se a luz se apagar
Não vais conseguir sonhar
Mas conta sempre comigo
Estou cá para a ligar

E de volta à vida te deixarei
E de regresso te apoiarei
Espero k um dia te lembres
Destas palavras k te confessei

Dedicado a ti...
Beijo***

It’s in Portuguese but here’s the translation:

I confess

Body of woman you have
Soul of an angel you also have
It’s a radiating light
That will take you more away

Do not think that everything is pretty
Do not think that everything is beautiful
You live in a magical world
Fight to be able to have it

If the light burns down
You won’t be able to dream
But you can always counts on me
I am here to make it light again

And back to life I will leave you
And in return I will support you
I hope you remember
These words that I confessed to you

Dedicated to you…
Kiss ***

Beautiful, right? Thanks Xtevao, you’re always in heart!

Allison Mack's Blog

Allison Mack, the brilliant actress from the TV series Smallville known as Chloe, is a webmistress of a very remarkable website/blog… since her words are so inspiring and appealing; I’ve past by there today and decided to comment.
Really makes you stop and think about you and everyone around you…

I strongly recommend it!

School trip to Lisbon

What a trip! 2 days of viewing museums. Most of my classes are all about art, so we went to all kind of art museums.

I had a blast yet in the second day we got really tire, because we walked a lot to see museum after museum – no stop!
The sleep over was pretty fun. We all had a great time plus the teachers were excellent!
I think I’ve learned a lot from this trip, I’ve gain more experience about all kind of art and I think I’ve grown to find the better part of me.

A special thanks to my English teacher, Albertina Viegas, without her this school trip wouldn’t have been made! And to my class 11º2º, we rock!

Smallville and the Cast

My new obsession, Smallville and Tom Welling.

“Smallville is an American television series that follows the adventures of a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling), as a teenager living in Smallville, Kansas, during the years before he becomes Superman. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Smallville debuted on October 16, 2001 on the WB Network, though it now airs on The CW (following the merger of The WB and UPN after the respective networks ceased operations) and is currently in its sixth season. Smallville is filmed in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada.
The series inspired a spin-off pilot episode (Aquaman) that was never aired. Promotional tie-ins have included: three sets of online web series, two of which were produced by Verizon (Smallville: Chloe Chronicles and Smallville: Vengeance Chronicles) and the other by Sprint (Smallville Legends: The Oliver Queen Chronicles), a series of young-adult novels, a DC Comics comic book and soundtrack releases. The show broke Charmed's record for highest rated debut for The WB, with 8.4 million viewers tuning in for its pilot episode. Viewers will often observe lines of dialogue, guest stars, character wardrobe, musical scores, and scenic design used as allusions to the Superman comic books and films.”

I’ve seen most of the episodes but never by order, so I’m starting a journey, to watch all the episodes from the beginning! I’ve got the complete season 1 on dvd and now I’m looking forward to buy the complete season 2 which I already saw 4 episodes.

The CastAll great actors! Hope they continue doing a fantastic job and hope to see them more often.
My favourite actors from smallville are: Tom (of course), Kristin, Allison, Michael and Erica.

300

One of the best movies of 2006! The story, the visuals were all perfect and attractive.

It only came to Portugal this month and I went to watch it yesterday with my big sister and friends.

Google-it:

“300 is a 2007 film adaptation of the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller, itself partly inspired by another film based on the Battle of Thermopylae, The 300 Spartans.[1] The film is directed by Zack Snyder with Frank Miller attached as an executive producer and consultant, and was shot mostly with bluescreen to duplicate the imagery of the original comic book. Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fight to the last man against Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his army of over one million soldiers, while in Sparta, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) attempts to rally support for her husband. The story is framed by a voice-over narrative by the Spartan soldier Dilios (David Wenham). Through this narrative technique, all manner of fantastical creatures are introduced, placing 300 within the genre of historical fantasy. 300 was released in both conventional and IMAX theaters in America on March 9, 2007. The film broke box office records, although critics were divided over its look and style. Some acclaimed it as an original achievement, while others accused it of favoring visuals over characterization. Controversy arose over its depiction of the ancient world for it is a fabricated version of the truth in its depiction of both the Greeks and the Persians.”

And I must say, Gerard was HOT!

Friday the 13th

Yesterday, Friday 13, the day that haunts us all… I got curious and google-it:

“A Friday occurring on the 13th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in English, German, Polish and Portuguese-speaking cultures around the globe. Similar superstitions exist in some other traditions. In Greece or Spain, for example, Tuesday the 13th takes the same role. In Russia, the unlucky day is Monday. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia (a word that is derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Παρασκευή, δεκατρείς, and φοβία, meaning Friday, thirteen, and phobia respectively; alternate spellings include paraskevodekatriaphobia or paraskevidekatriaphobia) or friggatriskaidekaphobia, and is a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a phobia (fear) of the number thirteen.”

Interesting… I can say now that I have paraskavedekatriaphobia. I hate Friday 13, something bad always happens. But I guess destiny was fond of me, nothing, this year, happened – thank God.

But wait there’s more:

“Before the 20th century, although there is evidence that the number 13 was considered unlucky, and Friday was considered unlucky, there was no link between them.
Many popular stories exist about the origin of the concept:
- The Last Supper, with stories that Judas was the thirteenth guest, and that the Crucifixion of Jesus occurred Friday.
- That the biblical Eve offered the fruit to Adam on a Friday, and that the slaying of Abel happened on a Friday (though the Bible does not identify the days of the week when these events occurred). [1]
- Many modern stories (including The Da Vinci Code) claim that when King Philip IV had many Knights Templar simultaneously arrested on Friday, October 13, 1307, that started the legend of the unlucky Friday the 13th.
Neither these nor any other historical date have been verifiably identified as the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition. The first documented mention of a "Friday the 13th" is generally listed as occurring in the early 1900s.
In the case of Greece, Tuesday, April 13, 1204 was the date that Constantinople was sacked by the crusaders of the Fourth Crusade. The first-ever fall of what was then the richest Christian city, and the looting that followed, allegedly gave Tuesday 13 its bad meaning. Coincidentally, Constantinople fell for the second time in its history on Tuesday, May 29, 1453, to the Ottoman Turks, a date that puts an end to the Byzantine empire, and to Greek sovereignty for several centuries, and therefore reinforcing Tuesday as an unlucky day in the Greek world.”
